Is AAC better than MP3?
At the same bitrate AAC keeps more detail, especially at lower bitrates — but re-encoding an existing MP3 to AAC can't recover quality the MP3 already discarded. For the best result, convert from a lossless source instead.
Why is the output a .aac and not .m4a?
This exports a raw ADTS .aac stream, which most modern players and Apple devices read directly. If an app insists on a container, wrap the same AAC audio in an .m4a instead.
Does converting MP3 to AAC restore quality my MP3 already lost?
No. This is a lossy-to-lossy transcode, so it can only re-encode the audio that survived the original MP3 compression, not recover detail that was already thrown away. If you still have the source WAV from Suno, convert that to AAC instead for a cleaner result.
What AAC bitrate should I choose?
For music, 192-256 kbps AAC is transparent to most listeners, and AAC around 128 kbps is roughly comparable to MP3 at 160-192 kbps. Setting the AAC bitrate higher than your source MP3 won't add quality back — it only inflates the file size.
